My 12-year-old wants an account but I keep hearing about scammers targeting kidson there - anyone dealt with sketchy trade offers or phishing in chats? Trying to figure out if the parental controls are actually solid before I let him download it.
Steam’s legit, but like any big platform with a digital marketplace, it does pull in scammers who’ll try fishing for login codes or pushing shady trades. Family View lets you PIN purchases, lock the community market, and restrict chat/friend requests, and it actually works pretty well if you set it up before handing over the credentials. Just start it on high restriction, make it clear that any password or Guard code requests are instant “no’s,” and you’ll be fine.
